Vet Preventive Medicine

When should I come in for a pet check-up?

  • Puppies and kittens should be seen regularly in their first few months so we can check for parasites such as worms, fleas, or ticks, give them their booster shots, and make sure they’re growing and developing properly.
  • Adult pets ages 1-7 should be seen once a year to receive booster shots or blood tests as necessary, a wellness exam, and a dental health check-up.
  • Senior pets should be seen twice a year since they’re more likely to develop problems as they age. Those problems also usually progress more quickly in a senior pet.

Every Pet Deserves A Long, Happy Life

Comprehensive veterinary care to help make it happen.

What is Veterinary Preventive Care?

Many people think of preventive care as taking their pet to the vet once a year for vaccinations and not much else. However, it’s so much more! Routine veterinary preventive care will help your pet live a longer healthier life.  A preventive care exam will cover each of these areas:

  • Vaccinations
  • Dental Care
  • Checkups
  • Wellness Exams

What Is a Pet Wellness Exam?

Our veterinary team will examine your pet for any signs of illness, pain, or parasites during a wellness exam. We will perform a nose-to-tail pet check-up to make sure your furry friend is in tip-top condition. At the end of it, we’ll have a complete picture of your pet’s overall health and know what steps (if any) we need to take to improve it.

Why is Veterinary Preventive Care Important?

Our much-loved dogs and cats are descendants of wild animals, and just like their wild ancestors, they tend to hide pain or illness. For wild animals, it’s a matter of survival since any sign of weakness puts their lives at risk. For our pets, it’s simply instinct. And possibly a desire to avoid a trip to the vet! Regularly scheduled, comprehensive wellness exams will ensure that your pet isn’t suffering in silence.

Catching issues early during a veterinary preventive care visit often saves money in the long run. More importantly, it frequently results in a better outcome and quality of life for your beloved pet. During a preventive care exam, we’ll look for signs of:

  • Anemia
  • Arthritis
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Obesity
  • Periodontal disease
  • Thyroid disease, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders

Catching these and other conditions early may allow us to reverse them or slow their progress. If you have pet insurance, it will often cover wellness exams and preventive treatments.
